Yakuzi is the name of an angry dancer who was messing with everyone all the time, in a musical meant to be, 30 years ago.
The musical was never written, but the saxophone quartet was. When I started composing it, I felt like a little bit like Yakuzi, messing around with rhythmic patterns and odd styles of playing.
The piece was commissioned and premiered by Stockholm Saxophone Quartet, the first performance on my birthday 1993, just a few weeks before I gave birth to our first son.
